"The Gold Coast Polo & Country Club endeavours, where possible, to care for the grounds in the most environmentally friendly way available. Consequently we have been working with Wormtec Worm Farming and Vermiculture.
- Use worm farming in the elimination of all our horse manure and green organic waste (this material is now converted by the action of compost worms, in above ground worm beds, into a beneficial soil improving product)
- Use the soil improving product on our polo grounds.
As a consequent of working with Wormtec, we have now eliminated the troublesome waste product associated with horses. The challenge with having large quantities of horse manure is:
- The leaching problems that occur from manure heaps after rain, and the risk of this product entering our waterways.
- Large manure heaps are odorous and consequently attract flies and other pests.
By eliminating synthetic chemicals and organic waste products we now have a much healthier environment, added to this it is our intention to use only organic fertilizers.
Our polo club is set in a very natural rural setting with native animals, fish and platypuses in our local river, so we are very conscious of pollution problems.
We are very pleased with the environmentally friendly process used to reduce our manures and organic green waste. We are happy to recommend Wormtec Worm Farming and Vermiculture above ground worm pit system and compost worms and look forward to using the by product of this process on our grounds."
